Nicaraguan children gain reading skills with support of World Vision, Polaris Infrastructure

School children in Telicia, Nicaragua are learning to read thanks to World Vision Nicaragua and the support of Polaris Infrastructure INC of Canada.

During a recent event at the school, the children and their teachers spoke about how Quiero leer para aprender, a World Vision literacy program in Nicaragua, was improving reading skills while fostering a love of learning.

The campaign supports children, teachers, and parents in rural communities across the country, with an aim to promote reading and learning. Students receive tablets or Digital Backpacks developed by Inventuus International Corporation.

Jorge Bernhard, President of the Board of Directors joined Marc Murnaghan, Executive Director and Maria Haydee Pereira, National Director of World Vision Nicaragua at the gathering. Other members of the board—James V. Lawless, Jaime Guillen, C. Thomas Ogryzlohe—also attended, along with CFO Shane Downeny, Alexis Osorno (General Manager), Johnny Bendana (Human Resource Manager), Antonio Duarte (Special Projects Manager) and Marecla Bascope (Social Responsibility  & Communications Specialist) from PENSA.

Polaris Energy helps fund remodelling of school in Nicaragua

Thanks in part to a donation from Polaris Energy Nicaragua S.A. (PENSA), students in Telica will be able to learn under a new roof.

Their education centre, built in 2008, was in need of extensive repair. In addition to the roof, the repairs included new windows, walls, and ceilings. With the upgrades, sixty-eight students who attend the centre will benefit from an enhanced learning environment.

On May 17th, Marc Murnaghan, the Chief Executive Officer of Polaris Infrastructure Inc. (the parent company of PENSA) joined the mayor of Telica, Marbelys Rios and officials from the Ministry of Education to inaugurate the refurbished centre.
